4500km self-drive safari through South Africa and Botswana
A self-drive safari through Southern Africa is no doubt a bucket list worthy “Trip of a Lifetime”. In concept it sounds amazing – stop and go at your own pace, camping in the wild under the stars, and of course, best in the world big game wildlife viewing! In reality, it is quite daunting to bring to fruition – renting a reliable and properly equipped 4×4 vehicle, detailed itinerary planning, booking camping, understanding the local customs and culture, etc. – especially when you are living on the other side of the world.
From the first moment I reached out to Stephen Becker from Overland360 I knew I was in good hands. From his prompt response to my initial email inquiry, to his thoughtful approach to understand my travel group’s specific desires for our trip, I felt like he was our personal African safari guide already… from 15,000km away! Through our ensuing email and phone conversations, Stephen did very well to gauge the amount of facilitation we desired with our self-guided adventure. The result was an excellent balance of just enough information and advice to send us on our way safely and soundly, but allowing us to fill in the details ourselves.
The 4×4 vehicle itself was top-of-the-line and a significant step above vehicles other companies rent – excellent aftermarket suspension lift, heavy duty A/T tires, complete kitchen, fridge and freezer, hot water, shower, solar-panel changing, and integrated tents for four people. Thick mud, deep soft sand, and river crossings were no challenge for this safari machine.
Without any doubt Stephen Becker and Overland360 were keystone to the success of our trip – it could not have happened otherwise.
