This South African adventure tour starts and ends in Cape Town and explores some of South Africa’s most beautiful landscapes along the Garden Route and into the Great Karoo.

Your host will be well known South African singer/songwriter/entertainer Clint Cunningham. Clint has over 30 years’ experience touring Southern Africa as an entertainer with his band Clint & Co. His love for 4×4 & off-road motorcycle adventures has furnished him with a wealth of knowledge about the region’s most fascinating destinations and spectacular roads.

Highlights include the Bushman’s Cave Mountain Theatre in the Northern Cedarberg, star gazing in Sutherland, the incredible dirt roads of the Karoo, the stunning Seweweekspoort and Swartberg mountain passes, the hidden hamlet known as “Die Hel” in the Gamkaskloof, the wonderful towns of Oudtshoorn and Knysna, an epic 4×4 journey through the wild and remote Baviaanskloof and a night at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa.

Itinerary

Cape Town

Day 1 – Cape Town, South Africa

Arrive in Cape Town
The tour starts with a wine tour, followed by group dinner and briefing. Accommodation near the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

The Cederberg Mountains

Day 2 – The Cederberg

The Cederberg
Breakfast at the hotel, then collect your luxury Avis 4×4 and set out on the N1 to Ceres via Bainskloof Pass. Lunch in Ceres, then drive to Clanwilliam to arrive at Bushman’s Cave Mountain Theatre in the late afternoon. Our host Erik De Milander will provide outdoor supper around a fire. Spend then night under the stars in comfortable roof top tents.

Sutherland Observatory

Day 3 – Sutherland

Star gazing at Sutherland
Breakfast with Erik, then a tour of the Bushman’s Cave complex to see the ancient Bushman paintings. Lunch in Calvinia, then on to Sutherland, the star gazing capital of the southern hemisphere. Accommodation tonight at Skitterland BnB, a 3-star hotel in Sutherland. Dinner at Ou Meule and star gazing.

Swartberg Pass

Day 4 – The Little Karoo

The mountain passes of the Karoo
Breakfast at the hotel before heading south to the exceptional Seweweekspoort Mountain Pass and on to Calitzdorp. The incredible Swartberg Pass is next, followed by lunch in Prince Albert. Depart for the tiny hidden hamlet of Gamkaskloof also known as ‘Die Hel’ – a hidden gem with an exceptional history. Fantastic day of 4×4 driving. Spend the night in your roof top tent after a relaxed supper around the fire.

Baviaanskloof

Day 5 – Baviaanskloof

Baviaanskloof
Simple breakfast and an early start towards Oudtshoorn, with an elephant experience at Buffelsdrift en route. We then continue towards Willowmore and into the wonderful Baviaanskloof for spectacular 4×4 driving and several fun river crossings. Spend the night in rooftop tents in the gorge.

Garden Route Sunset

Day 6 – Garden Route

Garden Route
Breakfast in Baviaanskloof before continuing out of the kloof to Patensie and along the world famous Garden Route to Knysna. Accommodation at Knysna’s Lagoon Lodge.

Cape Agulhas

Day 7 – Cape Agulhas

Agulhas National Park
Breakfast at the hotel before driving southwest down the Garden Route to George. Lunch in Mossel Bay and then across the Malagas Pontoon to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa. Stay the night in Agulhas National Park.

Hermanus

Day 8 – Hermanus

Hermanus
Depart for Hermanus via Gansbaai. Accommodation tonight at Hermanus Lodge on the Green.

Cape Town

Day 9 – Cape Town

Return to Cape Town
Back to Cape Town via the incredible R44 – Clarence Drive – arguably the most beautiful road in South Africa.

Day 10 – Fly Home from Cape Town

Fly home
All great trips must sadly end. After breakfast at the hotel we bid our farewells.
